What does that mean exactly... ?
Safety and health at work are very important at thyssenkrupp Steel, whether you work directly for thyssenkrupp or for another company that works for us. Our goal is to ensure that all employees work in a safe and healthy environment at every workplace and at all times. We work on this in two ways: First, we make sure that the right rules and procedures are in place. But more importantly, we make sure that all employees have the right attitude to health and safety.
We don't compromise when it comes to health and safety, because it's very important to us. We take care of our employees.
thyssenkrupp Steel views occupational health and safety as a continuous improvement process with the following objectives:
- We actively prevent accidents before they occur by taking precautionary measures, such as recognizing hazards or assessing accident health risks at each workplace. Training and regular instructions are also an established standard of our preventive occupational safety in order to work safely.
- We take measures to prevent work-related illnesses that can arise from physical and mental stress.
- We promote safe work processes and ensure trouble-free operation.
- We promote healthy working conditions, good management behavior and social interaction
- We strengthen awareness, motivation and the ability to act in order to improve individual health.
- We strive to involve employees with modified capabilities and to utilize all opportunities offered by the company.
We work hard to ensure sustainable health and safety management. We have introduced comprehensive processes and systems that are divided into four phases: PLAN - DO - CHECK - ACT.
These requirements are set out in our occupational health and safety manual. We regularly check their effectiveness through inspections, effectiveness tests and audits. We have this certified by auditors with an external view.
Partner companies
thyssenkrupp Steel makes sure that the external companies that work for it can also work safely and healthily. Our cooperation with external companies is so important to us and on an equal footing that we call them "partner companies". A chapter in our management handbook for occupational health and safety sets out how we deal with them. This summarizes the essentials in addition to treating each other with respect:
- We ask for information on health and safety at work, before we award contracts to partner companies,.
- There is a briefing for the partner company employees, before the work begins. It is explained how to work safely and not endanger each other.
- thyssenkrupp Steel checks during the work whether the safety rules are being observed.
- They tell the partner companies how well the (safety) rules have been followed, after the work is done.
Accident statistics
The accident statistic shows that thyssenkrupp Steel is improving safety in the workplace. Compared to fiscal year 2010/2011, we have already reduced our accident frequency rate by 44%. It is particularly important to continue to work proactively on occupational safety awareness and to engage in dialog, because every accident is one accident too many. We are striving for the vision of "Zero Accidents".
