Bargeman (m/f/o)

Your job

As bargeman you will become a specialist for logistics solutions on the Rhine and in inland ports. In addition to traditional inland waterway shipping you will also learn about freight transportation with barge trains and project logistics. Training also covers the transportation, handling and storage of goods.

Your job

As the basis for key technologies, complex work materials and components are of decisive importance for the economic success and social development of industrial nations.

Chemical laboratory assistants act as a link between research and production and ensure quality requirements are met exactly.

In the labs they work as independent teams, using advanced methods to analyze the structures and compositions of everything from the raw product ore to the high-tech end product steel in its various forms.

Working with computer-aided measuring systems and meeting the constant challenges of new quality requirements are a natural part of their work.

Chemical laboratory assistants use a variety of analysis methods, from volumetric and photometric analysis to x-ray fluorescence spectrometry and gas chromatography. The huge amount of numerical data involved and the need for quick and precise analyses mean computer-aided work is a must.

Your job

In a big operation it’s important that everything runs smoothly. The company railway operations ensure that people, materials and machines are in the right place at the right time.

Railway operations employees specializing in engine driving and transportation ensure the smooth transportation of people and freight at companies.

They drive engines and traction units for short and long-distance transportation, put together trains and ensure that the right number of the right wagons have been coupled to the engine. They also carry out shunting and check that the wagons are functioning properly, e.g. by carrying out braking tests.

Electronics technicians for automation technology are responsible for keeping automation systems and the associated production operations running. In production and manufacturing automation, process automation and network automation they integrate automation solutions, put them into operation and maintain them.

Industrial mechanic

Your job

Malfunctions and machine failures cause immense costs. In an operation it is important to ensure processes are kept running smoothly so as to avoid such problems.

Industrial mechanics maintain machines and systems and restore them to operational readiness. They inspect, service and repair machines and systems.

If production conditions change, they ensure adaptation to the new circumstances as required. Industrial mechanics dismantle and install parts and assemblies under maintenance conditions. They carry out checks and measurements to find defects, remedy faults, and arrange for machines and systems to be put back into operation after functional checks.

Carrying out these tasks calls for the ability to recognize wear conditions and initiate preventive or necessary repair measures, taking technical and business requirements into consideration. Cooperation with other departments to secure the area where repairs are required and transport the replacement and removed parts is a natural part of the job.

Construction mechanic

Your job

Cranes, conveyors, steel roads, elevators, loading stations, vehicle frames, metal containers ... these are all metal structures made up of highly varied individual parts with specific functions.

Construction mechanics work as a team and manufacture metal structures of all kinds by a variety of methods. They also carry out maintenance and repair work on metal structures as required.

This can range from industrial equipment, cranes and conveyors to shop structures and vehicle superstructures. Construction mechanics manufacture the individual parts of these structures on the basis of technical drawings and parts lists. For this they process steel beams, tubes and plates exactly to requirements, and subsequently bolt or weld the parts together.

The individual parts or prefabricated assemblies are assembled on site, positioned and installed. The construction mechanics than hand the structures and systems over to the customer, provide instruction in their operation and highlight order-specific features and safety regulations.

They are deployed in various areas, mainly at installation sites, in workshops and to carry out service. It goes without saying that they carry out their work in compliance with all regulations and safety provisions. Mechatronics specialists frequently need to coordinate their work with other departments, so team-working skills are a must.

As a joiner you make a wide variety of parts and products from wood. As a specialist for wood materials and woodworking you advise your
customers on everything from material selection to implementation. You plan your work in advance and can gauge the amount of material required.

You are familiar with a wide range of woodworking machines and tools and can use them with confidence. You work both in the workshop and on site to assemble/install wooden parts. Your duties also include repairing damaged wooden products, coating surfaces and designing sample pieces.

Your job

The controlling, monitoring and securing of automated systems is essential in ensuring uninterrupted production.

Metal process engineers monitor and control the largely automated production and manufacturing equipment. They optimize workflows and are responsible for the quality of their products. This depends on both the process technology used and the specialist skills of the engineer.

Metal process engineers carry out repairs during breakdowns and planned shutdowns, working together with colleagues from the fields of metal and electrical technology.

They work in modern control rooms that strongly resemble an airplane cockpit.

The work requires the willingness to take a high level of responsibility. First and foremost this involves responsibility for the safe operation of the equipment and the health and safety of employees.

Metal process engineers preserve and maintain the value of the technical equipment under their responsibility, ensure the level of quality required by customers is met, and ensure the optimum use of resources, materials and energy.

Metal materials tester

Your job

To specialists, steel is not all the same, it is a material with varying properties depending on its composition and the way it is produced.

Materials testers have basic metalworking skills. They are qualified to independently examine materials and workpieces and modify their properties by technological processes.

A precise knowledge of the preceding production and processing steps enables them to analyze the causes of identified defects and gain information allowing the sources of the defects to be eliminated. The execution, results presentation and quality assurance of the test processes are governed by the prevailing standards or other regulations.

The specialized training is divided into several subject areas: mechanical testing (destructive testing), metallographic testing (microscopy) and non-destructive testing (ultrasonic and x-ray testing). For all test processes, precision machines are used which are mainly computer-aided. An interest in physics and chemistry is a prerequisite for this training.

Training as a machine tool engineer focuses on manufacturing workpieces on machine tools. In addition to basic metalworking knowledge and skills, this training also provides know-how about associated areas (welding, brazing, heat treatment, grinding, drilling, etc.).

Workpieces are manufactured on both manual and computer-controlled CNC machines. The job involves planning workflows, writing and entering programs, setting up the machines and constantly monitoring the manufactured products using various kinds of measuring equipment.

You will learn how to work with technical drawings and tables and how to service and maintain tools and machines in accordance with the set guidelines.

In compliance with regulations and safety provisions, machine tool engineers independently manufacture individual pieces and series from various materials.
