Career
Peter Urban was born on January 7, 1954. Having studied economics at the university of Duisburg he began his career in 1980 as a graduate trainee in the taxes and customs department of Thyssen AG, Duisburg. In 1990 he became Vice President Corporate Accounting. Four years later he was promoted to Senior Vice President. In 1995 the father of two was appointed head of Taxes and Customs and from 1998 was additionally in charge of Corporate Accounting. From March 1999 he was Senior Vice President responsible for Corporate Accounting at ThyssenKrupp AG, Düsseldorf.
Effective January 1, 2003, Urban was appointed Executive Board member of ThyssenKrupp Steel AG, Duisburg, responsible for Controlling, Information Technology and Corporate Accounting and for the Special Materials Business Unit.
From October 1, 2005 he was appointed Executive Board Vice Chairman of ThyssenKrupp Steel AG, responsible for Controlling and for the Processing business unit. Effective October 1, 2009, Peter Urban is Chief Financial Officer of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG and since October 1, 2011 also Chief Financial Officer of the Business Area Steel Americas.
